La Montagne de Baya (Adrar n Baya) is a film about Kabyle villagers fleeing French colonial oppression in the early 20th century. It was directed by Azzedine Maddour, featuring actress, Djamila Amzal, who portrays the leading character, Baya. In the introduction and other scenes, the Kabyle villagers are transporting fertile soil to the mountainside and clearing the arid land to grow new crops (after being exiled from their homes). A short musical theme plays and I decided to interpret it on the Mandole because I really like the melody.
