Sheikhs Shikhats & B'net Chaabi - Complainte Chaabi | Awmaloulou

The second release from their debut album: an exciting mix of jazz, urban ethno and a traditional Moroccan chaabi song from the 60s. The traditional song tells how migrants feel empowered by the memories of family and loved ones back home. Nowadays, we can sustain these personal links more easily thanks to social networks etc. Nevertheless, this theme remains very topical for frontwoman Laïla Amezian: “Unfortunately, even today many people are still on the run and must draw their courage from the memories of their homeland. This song is also a kind of tribute to all these people.”

The video is directed by Maël Lagadec.
“With the clip, we want to show how different generations, genders and origins can together shape new communities and forms of celebration. Maël was perfect to embody this: he majestically captures the slightest emotions and manages to let the most diverse personalities of the group speak.” - Laïla Amezian
