Mandole cover of Rahim - Azrem qiriw, Le serpent.
Playing on a 10 string mandole made by luthier, Philippe Berne. Wood specifications: Spruce top, elm back and sides, mahogany neck, ebony fretboard and rosewood bridge. For the tuning, I’m using C, G, C, F, A# with Savarez Argentine 1510 strings. There are a variety of tuning options for the bass strings in this song. It’s also possible to tune the low C up to D and change positions accordingly, or you could even tune the bass strings up to F as they sometimes do in Kabylia. Rest in peace Rahim.
Rahim, (also known as Rahim Mohammed) was an Algerian singer-songwriter of Kabyle music, born 7 December, 1963 in Ath Aissa Mimoune in the district of Ouaguenoun, Tizi Ouzou, Kabylia. His life was cut short and he died at hospital in Tizi Ouzou on 13 February, 2010 after suffering a heart attack, but he recorded some amazing songs that are still enjoyed by many people today. He got his first guitar from his uncle in 1974 and he began learning to play music. In 1982 he recorded his first demo cassette in Azazga, Tizi Ouzou, and he later moved to Paris 1984 where he recorded his official debut release, Lsas (The Foundations) which was published by Azwaw Editions.
