Born on July 19, 1937, in Ath Sellam, Ighram, Ahmed Hamou — real name Benamara Ahmed — was one of the most unique voices in Kabyle music.
Known for his humor and double-meaning lyrics, he brought laughter and truth to an entire generation.
His famous song “Aqlwache” became a symbol of wit and social criticism.
Behind the laughter, there was always a message — about freedom, identity, and dignity.

With more than 100 songs, including Parabole, Takadoum, Chekayi, and Ayi Dhourar Goukvou, Ahmed Hamou stood among the legends: Slimane Azem, Dahmane El Harrachi, Akli Yahiaten, and many others.
He passed away in 2014, but his legacy remains alive — the laughter of a man who made truth sound musical.
